Sandalwood oil has many healing properties that can be useful in a vast variety of ailments. The essential nature of sandalwood oil, however, is one of cooling down the body and reducing heat. Its use in the healing of any kind of scars is questionable. There are no reasons why you should use oil to reduce the appearance of scars. It does not matter if they are chicken pox scars. There are some other simple measures that can be employed to get rid of scars. The most prominent among them is to apply silicone gel to them. This is a very well established and highly effective way to get rid of or lighten scars of any kind, no matter how old or prominent they are. Silicone is an expensive product, a fact that you should know before you begin to try treatment. It is also not easily available. You may actually have to buy it online if you cannot find any place that sells it otherwise. Another equally effective remedy is to use aloe vera gel for scars. Aloe has the property of reducing scars and marks of all kinds. It is also a natural steroid, so you should know that it will have immensely quick and strong powers. But a word of caution about aloe vera gel: do not use it and go out in the sun directly. Aloe vera gel is a photosynthetic substance. That is to say that if you expose your skin to the sun directly after using this, it will end up darkening your skin further, rather than having any other positive effect. If you can find fresh leaves of this plant, then you should use the gel directly from the leaves. But if you cannot, then store brought gel works just as well.

Instead of using sandalwood oil, you can use a paste made with sandalwood powder and rose water and apply this to your scars. This will help to lighten them. Keep in mind that this is a remedy that may be used as a supplemental one. It is not something you can use by itself and hope to see results from. You can also apply a mix of one part hydrogen peroxide and 10 parts of water to your scars. Also remember that it will take time for these remedies to show effect. You cannot expect to see any positive changes till at least a few months are up. So do not lose patience.
