In the case of open burns, the fastest and best way to get relief is to run it under chilled water. This will not only provide relief, it will also stop the burning process. Keep in mind that when we are burnt, the internal body temperature in that area becomes so high that the area continues to burn internally without our knowledge. Of course, this is the case of second degree and more severe burns. But burning with liquids can also cause this problem. Once you have run your hand under chilled water till it stops paining, you can pat it dry. This is also an important thing, because if there is water left over in the burn, then you stand the chance of infection setting in and this can be dangerous and detrimental. Once your skin is all dry, you can set about taking care of it. One of the best things to apply to a burn is regular mint toothpaste. Do not apply this on top of the burn. Instead, apply it to the area all around the burn. This will help tremendously in cooling down the internal body temperature, and thus will help with the healing process as well. Once you have managed to reduce your pain quotient and the burn has begun the healing process, there are also some other things you can put on it.
Applying turmeric powder to the open burn will help to heal it at least about 10 times faster. Turmeric powder is an excellent healing agent that will start the healing process almost at once. The good part about this remedy is that you can use it as many times as you like. Since it is a totally natural product, it will not have any side effects. Your skin may appear to remain orange or yellow, but you can ignore this. It is not a dye of any sort, but the natural color of turmeric. Make a paste of mint leaves and apply this to your burn. This will also help with rapid healing. As far as possible, try to keep the burnt area elevated. If you let it hang, then blood rushes to the area and will cause inflammation, which will only add to your pain. Any and all of these remedies should help you to heal your burn by closing the open sore in as little as two days. But even after it has closed, do not stop using them.
