Unfortunately, the chance of reversing back to black hair is very slim. The best you can do is to check further graying and stop the growing of white hair but already grayed hairs may not get back their original color again. Hair color is due to a pigment named melanin, which is produced at the hair follicle. A disturbance in melanin production usually results in gray hair. It is common to have gray hair as we grow older, but, sometimes to our dismay, hair starts graying prematurely. There may be multiple reasons for this abnormal graying of hair. Most common causes of premature graying are illness, genetic disorder, vitamin deficiency, and a faulty lifestyle. Exposure to certain chemicals, use of unsuitable cosmetics, and excessive smoking may also lead to premature gray hairs.

Here are a few home remedies you can try to prevent further growing of white hair. However, these home remedies may not be able to reverse the color of already grayed hair. Indian gooseberry, which is commonly called Indian gooseberry, is an excellent remedy for graying hairs. Apply Indian gooseberry juice on your scalp and massage daily. You can also prepare an effective mixture by adding lemon juice and coconut oil with Indian gooseberry. In case you cannot find Indian gooseberry easily, there are also oils that contain Indian gooseberry extract. These oils should work effectively as well. Another often-tried remedy for graying hair is curry leaves. Boil curry leaves in coconut oil and use this mixture to massage on your scalp. You can also boil ribbed gourd in coconut oil similarly and use the mixture to massage your hair and scalp. Washing your hair with strong black tea (add a pinch of salt to it) is yet another effective home remedy for graying hair.

Besides these home remedies, you should also pay attention to your diet. Ensure that you have enough protein in your diet - eat eggs, cereals, meat, and dairy products. Vitamin A and vitamin B along with essential minerals like iron, zinc, and copper are also important for healthy hair. Most of these can be found in green leafy vegetables and fresh fruits. If, however, there is still some nutritional deficiency, you may take some special medical supplements after consulting with your doctor.

To prevent premature gray hairs, it is also important to cut down on stress and avoid smoking. Adopt a healthy lifestyle, avoid junk foods, and do some moderate exercise daily. You should also take care to choose the cosmetics you use for hair care. Soaps and shampoos that do not suit your hair should be avoided altogether.
