If you want to permanently remove hair, then you need to consult a professional such as a cosmetic surgeon. Home removal techniques are not permanent, and neither are the options that are typically offered by a beautician. Techniques such as electrolysis and laser treatment are the only hair removal options that have a permanent effect, and these require complex and expensive equipment as well as proper training and experience. As is to be expected, these treatments are also quite expensive, and you will need to consider the cost when deciding whether the treatment is worth having. You should also consider the degree of effectiveness and the possible side effects of such treatments. Electrolysis treatments are usually not allowed to be called "hair removal treatments", because they usually only reduce the amount of hair, rather than completely removing all hair, in the treated portion of skin. Laser hair removal is certainly permanent, but it poses a few risks - the treated skin may become discolored or it may develop acne, among many other problems. Of course, if the treatment is performed properly by an experienced, responsible professional, the risks are greatly reduced.

Most people are satisfied with simple, temporary hair removal techniques that need to be repeated on a regular basis. Taking into consideration the location of the hair, the thickness of the growth, and the thickness of the hairs themselves, you can choose from a variety of options, including traditional techniques such as shaving, plucking, waxing, threading, buffing, and more modern techniques such as mechanical epilators or depilatory creams. Here too, you should educate yourself about the pros and cons. Depilatory creams and powders contain chemicals that are usually too strong for the facial skin. In addition, depilatory techniques - techniques that only remove the portion of hair above the surface of the skin - need to be repeated more often than epilatory techniques, which pull out the entire hair, right from the roots. Epilatory techniques are however more painful, and tend to be more time consuming too. They can also leave your skin sore and inflamed.

One more thing to consider when thinking of permanent hair removal, is the area that you intend to treat, especially if cost is a factor for you. For a small but troublesome area such as the upper lip, it may make sense to permanently remove the hair. But using such treatment for your legs is bound to be more expensive, and might not really be worth it.
