For long and thick hair, the most important factor that needs to be on your side is heredity. If you have a natural tendency to have luxurious hair, then chances are that you will have to do very little otherwise to improve its general condition. However, if you have not inherited this tendency, then your best bet is to work towards getting and maintaining long and thick hair on a daily basis. In order to have the kind of hair you desire, you should know that you will have to work on it consistently. There is no one time solution which will result in lustrous locks. To start with, you should minimize the use of drying agents such as heaters, curling irons and dryers on your hair. These will dry up the strands and will result in your hair turning brittle and breaking. If you have dry hair, it will also tend to become frizzy, since the strands will break half way. This is particularly rampant with people who have long hair as well. The next thing you should do is make it a practice to leave your hair loose as often as you can. Constant tying up of hair will pull at your strands and will also result in unnecessary hair breakage. If you cannot leave it loose, use soft cloth bands for tying your hair and do not tie it tightly.

Apart from these basic precautionary measures, you can also use some herbal applications to enrich the quality as well as quantity of your hair. For example, you can start making a hair pack with dried Indian gooseberry powder and water and start applying this to your scalp and strands about once a week. This can be purchased at a local Indian grocery store, or stores that sell natural remedies. This will add nourishment and will also encourage hair growth. You should also make a rinse of a tablespoon of fenugreek seeds added to a tall glass of water and left to soak overnight. The water can be used for rinsing out your hair and the seeds can be discarded. This will make your hair strands stronger. You can also soak overnight six almonds and have them in the morning. Almonds are also very good for encouraging hair growth. An excellent conditioner for hair is henna powder. This can be made into a paste with water and applied to your scalp and hair strands about once a month.
