Itching and dry white flakes of skin are the most common symptoms of dandruff. Dandruff occurs when there is an imbalance in hormones and the PH level of skin is disturbed. The cause of dandruff is also poor hygiene and health of the scalp. Too much stress and dry skin also cause dandruff. The tiny white flaks you see are nothing but dead skin cells from your scalp. When your scalp starts shedding in excess it is known as dandruff. It could either be an oily hair problem or a fungal infection and needs to be treated properly. You need to determine the cause of your dandruff problem. If it is internal then no amount of external treatments would work. For this you need to take care of your health and maintain good hygiene. Dandruff free hair can be achieved by keeping the following things in mind. Stress causes most problems with your mind and body. Do not worry and stress too much about trivial things in life. Practice meditation and or yoga if you like. Exercise regularly or swim. This helps to release Endorphins in our body, which keep us happy and reduce stress.

In some cases dandruff is caused due to the deficiency of certain vitamins and minerals in our body. So try and eat healthy balanced meals. Stay away from refined processed foods and too much oil and spice. Have dark green leafy vegetables and fresh fruits daily. Drink at least 8 - 10 glasses of water in a day for healthy digestion and to flush out the toxins from your body. Avoid smoking and alcohol since these increase the free radicals in our body, which are very harmful to your skin health. Keep your personal belongings like combs, towels and hair bands separate. Do not share these with anyone, as it will spread the infection. Rinse your hair with a quarter cup of apple cider vinegar mixed with ¾ cup of water. Apple cider vinegar has powerful antibacterial properties that help to treat and control the dandruff. It also makes hair more manageable and gives a healthy shine. Keep your scalp clean. Shampoo whenever necessary. Use a mild herbal shampoo such as margosa which works well as it also has antibacterial properties. Do not allow sweat and dirt build up on your scalp as this will increase your problem. Wear a hat or cover your hair with a scarf when you go out.
