Hair loss that exceeds 20 to 50 strands a day is a cause of alarm especially if it leads to bald patches on the scalp. Hair loss is usually dictated by genetic factors, but other factors such as nutritional deficiencies, use of harsh hair products with chemicals, exposure to excessive sun, wind and pollution and even excessive stress. In order to reduce hair fall and improve your hair growth, you need to improve your diet with a strong emphasis on Vitamins A, B, C and E found in fruits such as mango, oranges, carrots, lentils, chickpeas, papaya, asparagus, soybean oil, corn oil etc. You should also increase your intake of mineral silicea since it aids in proper absorption and utilization of other essential minerals. You can achieve this by consuming whole wheat, oats, barley, millet and oats. Iodine is also important for controlling hair fall, but you should take care not to consume excess iodized salt since that can harm the system. Instead increase your intake of iodine by having more strawberries, mozzarella cheese, yoghurt, cow's milk and eggs. Apart from this, it is important to use only mild hair products which have an herbal and natural base and avoid all chemical hair products. If you are experiencing excessive hair fall, you should avoid washing your hair very often, and take care to cover it with a hat or scarf when you are stepping out to protect it from undue exposure to heat and wind. You should also massage your scalp regularly to strengthen the hair follicles and increase the circulation of blood to your scalp. You can use a mix of 6 drops of essential oils such as lavender and bay in a base of sesame, soybean or almond oil to massage your scalp around half an hour before you wash your hair. Jojoba oil is also beneficial for preventing other skin conditions as well as hair fall. Apart from this you can you apply a paste of Henna, Shikakai and Indian Gooseberry in your hair once a week before you wash your hair. You can prepare a natural shampoo using rosemary, sage, nettle, burdock and peach leaves. You should boil these ingredients in water, strain the liquid and use it to wash your hair daily. Another natural shampoo can be prepared using Aloe Vera gel, wheat germ oil and coconut oil.
