Genital warts are caused by the HPV virus and they are highly contagious, transmitted through sexual intercourse. The virus can also be transmitted from a pregnant mother to her infant. They are not cancerous in nature but have been shown to be a precursor to cervical cancer and thus adequate treatment for genital warts is necessary. Genital warts usually occur around vagina, penis, scrotum, groin and urethra (amongst men). They are usually found in groups and clusters but they also occur singly. There are several simple home remedies that can be used to treat genital warts. You should start by increasing your intake of sulphur found in amino-acids since sulphur has anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties. You should thus try and eat more citrus fruits, asparagus, onions, garlic and eggs. The pulp of Aloe Vera, used as a miracle cure for many problems, can be applied directly onto the warts to dissolve them.
Castor oil is also used to treat genital warts, but this remedy is slow and can take up to one month to show effects. You should apply a small amount of castor oil on the warts twice a day for best results. You can also use raw, uncooked potatoes to treat the genital warts. You can cut the potato into slices and rub it directly on your wart three to four times a day. The juice of the potato will help to soften and eventually dissolve the wart over a period of two to three weeks. Alternately you can use onion slices to rub on the warts. Another effective home remedy involves applying grapefruit juice on the warts two to four times a day and covering the warts with a bandage. The warts gradually dissolve in a fortnight's time. Banana peels are also said to be very effective since they secret an enzyme which dissolves the warts. You should place the peel of the banana on the wart, making sure that the yellow side faces the wart and then bandage it to secure it in place. You should change the peel twice a day, leaving it on overnight for best results. You can also use the milk of the dandelion plant, obtained easily by cutting the stem and squeezing out the milk which can then be stored in an air-tight jar with a secure lid. You can apply this dandelion milk on the wart three to four times a day. A quicker home remedy involves rubbing pineapple slices on the warts several times a day. It is said that the warts will disappear within a few days with this treatment.
