Everyone wants to have a luxurious mane of healthy hair that is long and shiny. Though the kind of hair we have is dictated by the genetic factors, you can improve the quality of your hair by following some simple hair care rituals. Avoid using harsh chemical hair care products and getting hair treatments such as coloring, perming and straightening of the hair since this eventually harms the hair follicle. Excessive heat, sun, winds and pollution also harms the hair, so you should avoid undue exposure and cover your hair with a wide-brimmed hat or a scarf when you are stepping out. Wash your hair regularly using a mild shampoo with a natural base and follow it with a good conditioner. It is also important to regularly massage your scalp with some oil to increase circulation of blood to the scalp and also to improve the hair follicles. You should allow your hair to dry naturally since blow-dryers tend to dry the hair excessively, stealing the natural moisture from it. Above all, a healthy balanced diet rich in vitamins, proteins and minerals and sufficient consumption of fresh fruit juices and water is crucial for shiny, healthy hair.

If you have a dandruff problem, then you should take extra care and regularly massage your scalp with coconut oil. You can also add some Aloe Vera gel to the coconut oil and massage your scalp around 20 minutes before you wash your hair. Alternately you can add some lemon juice to the oil and massage your scalp with that, Direct application of lemon juice to the scalp fifteen minutes before you wash your hair is also beneficial for getting rid of dandruff. Another good remedy for dandruff is massaging the scalp with a mix of olive oil and almond oil and leaving it in the hair till it begins to tingle. You can wash your hair after this. A hair pack made with 2 tbsp curd, 3 drops each of honey and lemon juice can be applied to the hair and left for fifteen minutes. You should then scrub the scalp rigorously for a few minutes before washing it off. Fenugreek seeds soaked overnight, ground to a paste should be applied to the scalp around half an hour before you wash your hair. You can also boil 4 to 5 leaves of thyme in water and apply this to your hair for 15 minutes before rinsing it off. You can do the same thing with a tea of apple sage and rosemary tea. Another recommended home remedy to tackle dandruff is mixing 10 to 20 aspirin tablets in liquid shampoo and using that to wash your hair.
