Treatment for skin patches

If you are already visiting a dermatologist and being treated for some skin ailment, you should continue with the treatment and not mix it or replace it with home remedies or over the counter medications. Skin problems often take a long time to be solved, particularly ones involving sun damage and darkening of the skin. Even with medication, it can take several months for the dark patches to fade away and for skin to return to its normal color, so two months may be a bit early to expect results. However, if you are unhappy with your progress, you should discuss this with your dermatologist.

Hydrocortisone is the synthetic form of the cortisol hormone, which is produced by the adrenal gland. You have not mentioned exactly what your dermatologist's diagnosis was, but hydrocortisone is often used to treat inflammation and allergies. Perhaps you need to find out exactly what you are suffering from and what the hydrocortisone is supposed to do. It is possible that your medication is only meant to prevent the darkening of skin and not to lighten existing dark patches. This may not be what you were looking for, but it is more important — the dark patches will probably fade away on their own, but what is needed is to prevent new patches from forming, by solving the underlying problem.
