Washing hair regularly with mild shampoo for excessive oil in hair

Is it damaging to wash hair everyday? I have fine hair with tendency to get oily the 2nd day. Should I alternate every other day using traditional shampoo or stick to traditional shampoo?

It is important to take proper care of the hair and nourish it well. Since your hair is a natural extension of the skin and body, any deficiency in your diet, presence of toxic substances in the body or medical conditions have a direct effect on the hair, making it dull and lifeless and prone to breakages and hair fall. It is thus important to ensure a proper intake of the essential nutrients and adequate water to keep the hair soft and silky. It is equally important to keep your scalp and hair clean by washing your hair regularly. You should wash your at least twice a week to keep it clean. However if your hair is prone to greasiness and if you work in a polluted environment where your hair is exposed to a lot of dust then you might need to wash your hair more frequently.

Oily hair is caused by excess production of oil by the skin of the scalp. This happens when the skin of the scalp becomes very dry and thus the skin produces more oil to naturally moisturize the skin. However this oil gets transferred to the hair making it greasy and limp. It is thus important to wash your hair regularly to get rid of this excessive oil, but use a mild shampoo and try not to rub the shampoo into the scalp since this will only cause it to dry further and produce more oil! Ensure that you have rinsed out all the shampoo from your hair, since residue shampoo can worsen the greasy and limp nature of your hair. While it is important to massage your scalp regularly to improve the circulation of blood and thus improve the health of your hair, if you have oily hair, you should try and apply the oil only on your scalp and avoid rubbing the oil into your hair. A good way to reduce the oiliness of your hair is a vinegar rinse. You can mix vinegar and water in the proportion of 1:4 and use this to rinse your hair after you have shampooed it. Alternately you can rinse your hair with some diluted lemon juice. This not only reduces the oiliness of the hair, it also restores the natural shine to your hair. Apart from all this, you should also avoid brushing your hair very often because this further stimulates the production of oil and the oil gets transferred and spreads from the scalp into the hair when you brush it.
