In order to make sure that your son is not suffering from any kind of skin infection, you should first take him to his pediatrician. Sometimes, children tend to pick up all sorts of infections due to close contact with other kids. It is possible that there is a recurring type of infection your son has picked up from somewhere and it is manifesting as a pink tinge under the eye. On the other hand it could also be that your son has sensitive skin in that particular area and it simply tends to turn pink when it gets too dry. However, only a pediatrician can tell you exactly what the problem is. As far as the extreme dryness is concerned, you can take some steps to ensure that your son's dry skin is taken care of. To start with, you should make sure you apply a deeply moisturizing lotion or oil to your son's entire body at least three to five times a day during the winter. Olive oil works very well as an after bath moisturizer. It has a slight smell that he may not like. If this is the case, apply it only at night, using fragrant lotion during the day. This will ensure that his skin is well nourished with the essential amounts of greasiness and moisture that it requires. Since he is a child, this application should not be too difficult. Please keep in mind that children can resent such measures, but you should explain to your son why you are doing this.

You should also start using a specific type of bath product for your child. Use a soap or body wash that is rich in oils for better results. Also, make sure you do not give your child a bath with excessively hot water, as this has a tendency to dry the skin even further. Use warm water, which will only open up the child's skin pores minimally and will allow whatever cream or lotion you have to seep in. You should also make it a point to add enough healthy oils to your son's food. Healthy oils like flaxseed oil, coconut oil, olive oil and safflower oil contain fatty acids that help to eliminate dry skin problems. Other sources of healthy fats include whole milk, butter, cream and all other dairy products. His diet should also include raw fruits and vegetables as they are rich in minerals, vitamins and fiber and will help to keep his skin healthy.
