The rate at which hair grows varies greatly from one person to the next, and if your hair naturally tends to grow slowly, there is not much you can do to change this fact. On an average, the hair on your head grows at a rate of approximately half a millimeter a day. The actual rate for any given person may be more or less than this. Diet and hair care do have an effect, but you should not expect a drastic increase in hair growth. Your diet should simply be balanced - consuming a lot of one or two vegetables, fruits, or other foods that are sometimes promoted as being "good for the hair" is useless in most cases. These foods may certainly contain nutrients that are needed by the hair, but hair requires so many different nutrients that they can be got only by consuming a balanced, varied diet. Focusing on a handful of foods will not do this. In addition to eating well, you should also get adequate rest - excessive stress and losing out on sleep will negatively affect your hair growth. Finally, basic hair care, such as washing, conditioning, and combing are also important. You can also use oil, and coconut oil is particularly good for the hair as it seems to penetrate better than other oils, and provides the most protection against protein loss.
Another fact that you need to keep in mind is that hair growth occurs in phases. The first phase is the one during which the hair actually grows. In the second phase, hair goes into a resting state for a few weeks, during which there is no growth. In the final stage, this hair, which is now dead and fully keratinized, is shed. The duration of the first phase of growth is very important, as it determines how long your hair will grow before it falls. This is also determined by your genes, which is why some people (mostly men) are unable to grow their hair very long no matter how many months or years they go without cutting, while some people (mostly women) are able to grow their hair several feet long. You have not mentioned how long your hair is. It is possible therefore that you are already close to the natural limit for your hair, and it will not grow much more no matter how long you wait and what treatments you use.
