If hair straightening has damaged your hair, then there is not much you can do about it on your own. There are procedures to repair and "reconstruct" damaged hair, but these need to be performed by a hairdresser, and are expensive and time consuming. If the damage is very extensive, it may not be possible to repair your hair, and you may simply need to cut off all the damaged portions. This may require you to choose a very short hair cut for now - this is something that your hairdresser will need to judge and advise you on. Of course, the damage is not permanent, in the sense that it does not affect the growth of new hair. Split ends, if not cut off, may affect new hair, because the split may continue up the hair shaft. However, apart from this, the new hair that grows will be completely normal and healthy, and it will also be curly (or wavy, depending upon your natural hair type).

Hair straightening procedures can be quite harsh on your hair, and it is therefore important to take several precautions when straightening your hair. For one thing, it is advisable to get the procedure done by a professional, even though there are a number of home kits available today. Secondly, the chemicals should first be tried on a small section of hair, and only if there is no adverse reaction should you go ahead with the whole procedure. Finally, proper follow-up care is needed, not just on the same day, but for the next few months. The hair straightening procedure, even if it does not immediately damage the hair, leaves hair very delicate and prone to breakage. You should therefore handle your straightened hair with great care, using a special shampoo and conditioner, and regularly oiling your hair.

It is of course now too late for you to do any of these things, as the damage has already been done, but if you ever plan to straighten your hair again, you should keep these things in mind. It would however be better to avoid straightening your hair in the future; the current damage may be an indication that your hair is too delicate to undergo such a harsh procedure. There are several types of hair straightening, but all of them use either heat or chemicals, and some use both. Instead, you can simply use a suitable shampoo and detangling conditioner to keep your hair curly but manageable.
