Stopping use of anti-dandruff shampoo when hair gets flaky

I have dry scalp which gets flaky if I do not wash my hair everyday. My doctor says its not dandruff but fungus flakes. I use shampoo almost everyday alternatively I use herbal essences.

The first thing you should do is stop using an anti dandruff shampoo. This is important because it is a well established scientific fact that any special shampoos that are used to clear dandruff are not effective for most part. This is because the chemicals that generally promise to clear out dandruff are known to work only as long as the scalp is in contact with them. Once they are washed off, they stop working altogether. So basically, the effectiveness of the anti dandruff shampoo will only last as long as the shampoo is on your scalp, and not in the long run. You are better off using a regular herbal shampoo. Please try to pick one that is organic and hypo allergenic. If you have fungus flakes falling out of your hair, then you should be very careful about what products you use. Fungus flakes cannot come out of your scalp unless you have a fungal infection of some sort. You should work towards getting rid of this infection. It is advisable for you to discuss treatment and medication options with your doctor. However, if you do not wish to follow a course of medication, then you can also follow some simple methods at home to rid yourself of any kind of fungus on your scalp.

Start applying hair oil to your hair once a week. This can be left overnight and washed off the next morning. In order to clear out any residue that has been left behind, take half a lime and scrub this into your hair before washing your hair. Leave this in your scalp and hair for about half an hour and then wash. You will actually be able to feel that your scalp is cleaner. Try to use olive oil or coconut oil, which is not too sticky and will not allow any dirt to collect on your scalp. If you are using a natural and hypoallergenic shampoo, then there is no problem in washing your hair everyday. In fact, this will aid in keeping your scalp cleaner. If you are suffering from dandruff, or even a fungal infection which is making flakes fall from your head, you should also try and keep the length of your hair short. It is far more difficult to manage longer hair than it is to manage short hair. You must also avoid using conditioner separately, as this product will also tend to leave residues.
