Prevention tips for baby skin care

My 4 month old grandson has a white (like pimple shaped) spot on the left side of the tip of his tongue. He is bottle fed, I don't think his nipples are sterilized, he is happy, has no fever or symptoms of any type.

If the baby has no problems of any kind, you would do well to ignore anything that you perceive as a problem. At four months, the child is too young for you to try and administer any remedies at home. It is not only dangerous, it could also result in backfiring completely and you could end up with the child suffering from something else altogether. However, if the little boil on the tip of your baby's tongue is a source of botheration to you, you can get it checked out by a pediatrician. This is the best and safest step you can take for the baby. It is possible that the baby has developed a small ulcer due to the constant friction between the tongue and the nipple of the bottle. While this is quite rare, it is known to happen sometimes to babies who suck very hard.

There are a couple of things you can check to eliminate any possibility of injury. The first thing you must do is start sterilizing the nipples used by the baby. This is particularly important for the general good health of the child as well. Nipples, because they remain constantly damp due to both milk as well as the baby's saliva, are a hotbed for fresh bacterial infections. You can eliminate this possibility or circumvent it by proper sterilization. It is very easy to do and requires hardly any time and effort on your part. All you have to do is put them in a clean glass bowl of water and microwave on high for about 5 minutes. This process can be followed about every two or three days. Generally, it is followed everyday for newborns. But since your grandchild is four months old, you can do it less frequently than that. Furthermore, it is absolutely essential that you wash the nipples with hot water after each feed. This will ensure that no germs or bacteria will transfer to the baby in any event. The second thing you would need to check is if your grandchild is able to drink comfortably and properly. Sometimes, we continue to use newborn nipples for children even as they grow older. This tends to make them suck excessively hard. The mere physical action of sucking hard can also cause ulcers in the baby's sensitive mouth. You should make sure you switch to using nipples that are appropriate for the age of the baby.
