The problem you are describing is quite unusual. It is highly recommended that you get yourself medically examined before trying anything to take care of it by yourself. If this swelling occurs every month, there is a pattern here, and it must not be ignored. Only a doctor can tell you exactly what is causing this. And if you have swelling that is causing tightness of the face, this is an even a greater cause for concern. Make sure you go to a general physician as well as a dentist. Sometimes, a nerve attached to your tooth could also be responsible for this problem. In some rare cases, when the wisdom teeth are in the process of appearing, this could happen. Keep in mind that wisdom teeth do not follow any pattern with anyone. Some people may get them painlessly and all at once. While others may have to suffer unknown pains and swelling for months before they finally appear. Only a proper and thought dental examination will be able to tell you if your trouble stems from irregular wisdom tooth growth. It is imperative that you not delay these tests and get them done as fast as you can.

If you are faced with general swelling due to simply sleeping wrong - which is known to happen - then you can take steps to reduce this swelling. Applying cold compresses will help you. This will ease off the pain as well as the inflammation. If this does not suit you, however, you can also apply warm compresses. This will disperse the blood that has pooled in the area and will not allow the pain that is typically accompanied with the swelling. It is totally inadvisable to take drugs such as Benadryl on such a regular basis. The will hamper your day to day activity by causing drowsiness. Any drugs taken on a regular basis can also become addictive, particularly drugs that contain large amounts of alcohol. You would do well to avoid such drugs. You can also apply some clove oil to your inner cheek when you get this swelling. If your problem is related to teeth in the remotest of ways, this will help you out. You can also tuck a chilled used tea bag into your cheek. This will help with the swelling as well as healing. If you can find it, use green tea bags. These will help more than regular tea bags normally would.
