Leukoderma is caused due to the malfunction of the skin cells that are responsible for providing color to the skin. In case these cells are completely absent, the condition is called albinism. This is typified by completely white skin and hair, and in some cases, also blood red pupils. The cells that produce melanin, which is the natural dye of the skin, are completely absent in albinos. You should first of all be aware that it is very rare for a medical reaction to cause leukoderma. Although this is not completely unheard of, this rarely happens. In some extreme cases, however, it is possible that particularly strong medicines, such as those taken for diseases such as cancer can cause such an acute disorder. If you suspect that this has happened, it is advisable for you to get a second opinion to determine or refute the same. It is entirely possible that the physician who has prescribed those strong medicines that may actually have caused this problem would not want to acknowledge that the medicines prescribed by her or him are at the root of this. This is the reason you should make it a point to get a second opinion.

The positive side of this kind of leukoderma is that is it reversible. Once you stop taking the medication that has caused it and start taking the medicines that will counter and start repairing your damaged skin cells, there is a very high chance that you may be able to get rid of the disease altogether. You should know that the possibility if this kind of a recover is not so high if you have leukoderma that is inherited, for instance. Of course, that is not to say that leukoderma is not curable. It most certainly can be cured. You would only have to follow the complete and tedious method of treatment required for it. In tandem with the treatment, you would also have to follow some simple home remedies that can aid in faster recovery. Leukoderma is a direct result of a weakened liver. For this purpose, it is important to get adequate rest and eat properly and well for cure. Radish is a particularly useful vegetable for this ailment. You should also have more of fresh fruits and vegetables and stay off heavy food and meats. Ginger is also considered to be very useful in treating the patches. Apply topically or add to your food.
