You have mentioned that you had healthy hair before and that it has lost its shine and health now. This could be because of not taking enough and or proper care of your hair or your health in general. You haven't mentioned your age and if you are a man or a woman. Some men and women have unhealthy hair due to hormonal imbalances. In many cases, this can be controlled simply by living a healthy lifestyle. You need to take care of your body, not just externally but also internally. For this you need to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Drink lots of water and fresh fruit juices throughout the day. Avoid the commercial packed fruit juices. Eat a healthy balanced diet, which is not too spicy or oily. Avoid junk food, and do not smoke. Smoking increases the amount of free radicals in our body, which damage the health of skin and hair. Avoid alcohol if you can. Work out regularly and do yoga (headstands are good as they increase the blood flow to your head).

Limit your exposure to the sun. Whenever you go out wear a hat or cover your head with a scarf. This will protect your hair from the ultraviolet rays and also from dust and pollution. Wash your hair regularly with a mild herbal shampoo. Try one with margosa. Condition your hair with a mix of honey and lemon after you shampoo your hair. Take a tablespoon of honey and add the juice of 1 lemon. Mix well and apply this on your hair after your shampoo. Leave on for a few minutes and rinse out with cold or plain water. Honey moisturizes your hair and lemon juice will add shine to it. Your hair will also be more manageable. Please do not use hot water to wash your hair as this will cause dryness and make your hair brittle.

Try a hot oil massage at least twice a week to restore the health and texture of your hair. Take 1-2 tablespoons of either almond, olive or margosa oil. Warm it a little bit and massage it into your scalp. Cover your entire head and the length of your hair. Then soak a large towel in slightly hot water. Wring out the excess water and cover your head with it. The heat will open the pores on your head and increase the absorption of oil in your scalp. Do this 2 - 3 times. Shampoo your hair after 1 to 2 hours and condition as mentioned above.
