Scars just take a long time to heal, and there is nothing that can be done to simply "get rid of" a scar, unless you want to go in for surgery or any other cosmetic procedures. Scars are part of the wound healing process - they are made up of fibrous tissue that is naturally created when a wound heals. All scars fade with time, but this process happens so slowly that a large or deep scar never really disappears and can last a life time.
Even small scars from minor injuries can take a long time to heal. To some extent, this depends on how the wound healed - traditionally, people were advised to keep wounds open and dry, but today we know that keeping a wound covered and constantly moist with an antiseptic ointment is better both in terms of healing the wound and in terms of minimizing scarring. In your case of course, it is too late to discuss wound healing or scar formation. You will simply need to be patient while your scar fades; at the most, you can try some home remedies to speed up the fading.
You have not mentioned exactly how bad the scar is - for a large, deep scar, it is unlikely that any home remedies will help. It has already been three years since the injury, so the scar is quite certainly not a tiny one. However, if you have noticed any improvement at all in the last three years, then the chances of eventually getting rid of the scar are pretty good. In general, it is important that you take good care of your skin - wash it regularly, avoid using soap too often, moisturize your skin in dry weather, and make sure that you drink enough water and get all the necessary nutrients by eating a balanced, healthy diet. If your skin is healthy and well maintained, it will repair itself much faster.
In addition, you should apply aloe gel to your skin at least twice a day. Aloe gel is commercially available at almost any store today, but if possible, you should apply fresh gel taken right off the plant. Vitamin E is also good for the skin, and is available in oil form at most medical stores. You should apply a little bit of this oil to your scar at night before going to bed. Remember that these treatments will not show results any time soon - it may still take a few more years for your scar to fade away completely.
