Very often our pores get blocked. They are blocked dead skin cells, which then block the oil that usually drains out of the pores. Instead, the oil or sebum stays in the pores and encourages the growth of bacteria. This is how a whitehead is formed. You can see whiteheads as small white spots on the surface of your skin. In some cases they are so small that they can hardly be seen but the skin in the area becomes rough and bumpy. As you can see, the most important thing is to try and unblock the pores on your face. You will find that steaming your face works very well at accomplishing this. Heat a vessel of water and drape a towel over your head. This will allow the rising heat to get trapped within this toweled enclosure. The steam helps to open up blocked pores and allows the sebum to drain out naturally. Alternate the steaming session with washing your face in cold water. This increases blood circulation. Your face will then feel cleaner and softer. After doing this, pat your face dry with a soft clean towel. You can use an almond or oatmeal mask to cleanse your face. You can use either almond powder or oatmeal; mix it with some rose water to make a soft paste. Rub this on your face with your fingertips and allow it to dry for fifteen minutes before you rinse it off with cold water. An application of Aloe Vera gel is very effective in treating pimples and other eruptions. Use some grated raw potatoes on your skin to clear up the whiteheads. You can grind Margosa leaves and some turmeric to obtain a fine paste and apply this on the affected area. Fenugreek seeds too can be ground to a paste and applied every night on the affected area. Similarly pound the roasted peel of a pomegranate to get a fine powder, add some drops of lemon juice to this, and apply it on the affected area and use it as a mild scrub.
In addition to these applications, you should also make some changes to your diet and lifestyle. An irregular lifestyle also plays havoc with your body and this is visible in the eruption of pimples and whiteheads. Sleep at regular hours and ensure that you get sufficient sleep. Regular exercise will help clear your skin and prevent the formation of pimples. Eat food that is high in fiber. This means your diet should include green leafy vegetables, fruits and plenty of water. Drink fruit juices and buttermilk. Reduce your intake of tea and coffee and stay away from alcohol and tobacco products.
