Chicken pox refers to a common disease, medically known as Varicella and caused by the Herpes zoster virus. An air-borne disease, it is transferred easily by breathing in the germs or by contact with a contaminated person. This contamination could also occur during the incubating period of the virus which can enter the system and lie dormant for a long period without manifesting itself. It is characterized by the appearance of a rash with blisters filled with liquid. The disease starts with a mild fever for a couple of days at the end of which the blisters start appearing. The blisters which cause intense itching last for a couple of weeks before they start scabbing and fall off. Since children are more susceptible to chicken pox due to their weaker immune systems, it is important to ensure that they do not scratch the blisters and break them since this can lead to scarring. You can soothe the irritation of the skin by bathing the child in water in which neem leaves have been allowed to soak. Another efficient way of soothing the irritation is sponging the skin with some water in which baking soda has been dissolved.

However if despite all the preventive measures these are still some scars after the blisters have fallen off, you can resort to a number of home remedies to fade the scars. It is important to remember however that these treatments are not overnight miracles and can take time to show results even though chicken pox scars are not permanent. The best method of scar removal is the daily application of a mixture of lemon juice and honey. The lemon juice naturally bleaches the skin while the honey works to heal the scarred tissue. Another effective method of removing chickenpox scars is the regular application of Aloe Vera juice obtained by slicing open the fleshy leaf of the plant and scraping out the pulp inside. The Aloe Vera plant is known for its healing properties. You can also use tea-tree oil or cocoa butter to gradually fade the scars. If you start applying these immediately after the rash has disappeared, you can prevent the scars from deepening and thus the healing process is faster. Apart from this, the regular application of Vitamin E oil is beneficial for getting rid of the chicken pox scars since Vitamin E oil not only helps to heal scarred tissues it also encourages the growth of new skin cells. The traditional method of scar removal by application of sandalwood oil is highly recommended. You can also apply a sandalwood pack prepared by mixing some sandalwood powder with rose water daily on the affected skin. This helps to heal the skin and improve the skin tone and texture. Above all, you should remember to keep drinking water to keep your skin hydrated and improve blood circulation, required for speeding the process of healing the scarred tissues.
