Ironing is among the oldest hair straightening methods, but like any other hair straightening method, it should be used with caution. By its very nature, hair straightening is harsh on the hair, and always carries a potential for damage. A small amount of damage is unavoidable, because any hair straightening method will use either heat or chemicals, or it may use both. Both heat and chemicals tend to damage the hair; if the treatment is applied well, the damage is minimal, and barely noticeable, as long as adequate care is taken subsequently. However, if your hair is already delicate, if the treatments are regularly repeated, or if the tools or technique used are incorrect, the damage can become apparent right away. It is therefore always advisable to avoid straightening procedures as much as possible.

From your question, it seems that you are doing (or planning to do) two dangerous things to your hair. One problem would be if you plan to use a regular clothes iron on your hair. This may be fine once in a while, but if this is the tool you always use to straighten your hair, you are asking for trouble.

Proper hair irons are available, and they were made for a purpose. Clothes irons do not take into account the structure and texture of hair. Hair irons on the other hand are made of suitable materials and in a way that allows the appropriate amount and distribution of heat. Ceramic is the ideal material for a hair iron, and even a cheap hair iron that is not made of ceramic can do a lot of damage. A clothes iron is still worse. If you really want to straighten your hair yourself, purchase a good hair iron. Ensure that the hair iron has actual ceramic plating, and is durable. Cheap ceramic wears off very quickly, and some hair irons use other cheap substitutes that are not good for the hair.

However, even if you're using the right tools, the second problem still remains. You seem to want to straighten your hair on a daily basis. Daily use of even a good hair iron will eventually damage your hair. Your hair will get thinner and weaker and will thus be more likely to break or split.

Hair irons should be used only occasionally; if you really want to, you can get your hair permanently straightened, but as mentioned earlier, the best thing to do is to leave it the way it is.
