Homemade moisturizers and exfoliations for clearing dark spots on the skin

I have been having brown spots on my legs for the longest time. My hair pores on my legs are dark. If anyone knows a cure to get rid of this, please let me know.

Brown spots on your legs sounds like a simple case of hyperpigmentation. However, hyperpigmentation can be caused by a number of factors, and it is always better to identify the actual cause of the problem. This is especially important in the case of a chronic problem. You have not mentioned whether these spots keep appearing on a regular basis, or whether they have stayed the same for a long time. If there are a fixed number of relatively unchanged spots on your legs, then they are probably the result of some injuries or a skin infection in this area. Skin infections sometimes damage the melanocytes (the skin cells that produce melanin, the pigment which gives skin its color) in the affected area. This damage is usually temporary. But for some time, melanin production may increase, causing the skin in the area to darken. This is often seen in the aftermath of pimples or chicken pox boils. These spots of hyperpigmentation do not usually last long. Depending upon the extent of the damage that the infection has caused, the spots may fade away within a week, or they may take a couple of months. No real treatment is needed apart from basic skin care and hygiene.

However, if new spots continue to develop, the problem will never end unless you do something about it. First of all, you should of course ensure that your skin is clean at all times. Regular washing and exfoliation will minimize the amount of bacteria and dead skin cells that are present on your skin. For exfoliation, you can simply use a loofah while bathing. If you wish, you can use a pack of oatmeal soaked in milk as a loofah. This also works as a moisturizer, as the oils from the milk soak into the skin. Other home made exfoliation remedies include a mixture of rice flour, honey, lemon juice, and sandalwood powder. You can apply this before bathing - scrub your skin well with the mixture, leave it on for a few minutes, and then wash it off.

In the meanwhile, you should also reduce your exposure to sunlight. Whenever you go outdoors during the day, wear clothes that cover your legs. Sunlight will cause your skin to increase production of melanin, thus making the dark spots darker. If these measures do not work within a month or two, you should consult a skin specialist for a proper diagnosis.
