This is most probably nothing to worry about. If there are no other symptoms, such as itching, inflammation of skin, dryness, or change in color, you should simply leave it alone. In all probability, the hair has plainly been unable to grow because of constant friction. Take a close look at your shoes, and you will probably find the cause of the bald patches quite obvious. Some part of your shoes (or boots) is probably rubbing against your leg for a large amount of the day. As a result of this constant friction, the hair eventually breaks off, and new hair is also unable to grow. It might not even be your footwear - the friction might be with some other object, possibly because of your sitting position. If you want to, you could show your leg to your doctor on your next visit, just to be on the safe side. A doctor looking at the skin may notice something that you would miss, thus helping the diagnosis.

On the other hand, if there are other symptoms besides the hair loss, then you quite certainly have developed a fungal infection. Fungal infections of the skin are quite common, although they usually affect areas such as the underarm, the groin and the feet. Still, it is not unusual for another part of the body such as the calves to develop such an infection. These infections often cause hair loss, along with some amount of itching and inflammation. In a very small number of cases, there could be hair loss without any itching of inflammation.

Fungal infections usually develop because of inadequate hygiene and excessive moisture. In many cases, addressing these causes is enough to get rid of the infection. Therefore, from now on, be very particular about keeping your legs clean and dry. Wash your legs thoroughly each time you bathe, and in addition, wash them a couple of times through the day. Each time, ensure that you dry your skin thoroughly after washing. Do not put on your socks till your skin is completely dry. Also ensure that you wear a fresh pair of socks daily, and if necessary, change your socks in the middle of the day too. When you wash your legs, you can also add a final rinse with a solution of vinegar and water. Mix one part of vinegar with three parts of water, and daub this on your leg with a piece of cloth or a wad of cotton. Allow your leg to dry naturally.
