Oily skin is the result of the oil producing sebaceous glands becoming overactive and producing more oil than is needed. When one has oily skin the skin appears to be greasy, dull and has a shiny film of oil covering the skin. Oily skin is more than often accompanied by dark spots and pimples. It is more susceptible to the formation of black heads, enlarged skin pores and an overall unhealthy look. Some of us have naturally oily skin due to our heredity and genetic structure. However, in many cases it can be traced to the simple fact that an unhealthy diet can cause our skin to be excessively oily. Pregnant women who otherwise have normal, healthy skin can begin to have oily skin due to hormonal changes. The same is true for Adolescents whose hormonal shifts lead to oily skin and all the problems that go with it. Recent studies have even linked birth control pills to be one of the causes of oily skin. Last but not the least even the weather where you live can influence how oily your skin will be. A hot humid climate will almost always mean skin that is oilier than usual. On the other hand the good thing is that as you get older the flow of Sebum - the oil secreted by the glands in your body, start secreting less oil.
Several simple home remedies work to help reduce the occurrence of oily skin. A simple concoction of Cucumber and lemon juice applied to the face can drastically reduce the amount of sebum on skin. When using skin care products use ones that are not oil based. Avoid using cleansers that have very strong astringents as this dries the skin thus stimulating the skin to produce more oil to replenish the skin. Use warm water to rinse your face throughout the day. This will dissolve the excess oil without leaving your skin dry Above all maintain a healthy diet that is low in fried and processed foods. Eat green veggies and fruits in summer and drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
As far as the dark marks under your eyes are concerned - they occur because of the lack of sleep, over exposure to sunlight, allergies, fatigue etc. the skin around our eyes is very thin and thus when exposed to too much sunlight it is easily damaged. Do not use peels or a bleach to lighten these marks as these treatments will end up doing more damage to the already thin skin. Instead, start maintaining a diet high in nutrients, get ample amounts of sleep and when you're out doors use a sun block on your face and wear large sunglasses that cover the skin below your eyes.
