The only thing you can do to get a fair skin complexion is to protect your skin from sunlight. This might not work, if your skin is naturally dark in shade. Skin color is not something that you can change arbitrarily. You genes determine your skin color by determining the amount of melanin that is produced by your skin. Melanin is the natural pigment that gives your skin its color, and also has the function of blocking harmful UV rays. A certain amount of melanin will always be present in your skin, but if you spend a lot of time in sunlight, your skin will try to protect itself by increasing production of melanin. More melanin of course means that your skin becomes darker - this is what is known as a tan, and to the extent that you skin has been tanned, you should be able to lighten it. However, this will happen very slowly and the process cannot be speeded up. Home remedies and cosmetic treatments such as bleaches will have only a marginal effect, if any. Only if you limit your exposure to sunlight will your skin decrease production of melanin and get rid of the excess that was produced earlier. A mild tan may disappear within a month or two, but a severe tan could take a year or more to completely fade.

In any case, it does not matter much whether your complexion is fair or dark. There are many other factors that go into making your complexion beautiful. What matters more than skin color is whether your skin is smooth, clear, soft, and glowing. Dull, dry, rough, or blemished skin will not look beautiful no matter how fair it is. You should therefore concentrate more on these areas than on making your skin fair. Also remember that a lot of fairness treatments will actually harm your skin, leaving you with a bad complexion even if they work.

To keep your complexion healthy and beautiful, you need to have a healthy diet and lifestyle. Ensure that your diet is healthy, balanced and varied. Also make sure that you get adequate rest, exercising regularly will not only tone your skin but will also make sure it stays firm and wrinkle free. In addition, regular skin care, which includes cleansing, exfoliation, and moisturizing, will help. You can use commercially available products to do these things, or you can use home remedies. Whatever you choose to use, ensure that the treatment suits your skin type and is not too harsh.
