You need to understand that all hair removal techniques that can be performed at home are temporary. The same applies to the techniques used at most beauty salons. All these techniques merely work on the hair that has already grown - they do not stop hair from growing in the future. To permanently stop hair from growing, the hair follicle itself needs to be treated. Typically, the treatment causes limited, localized damage to the hair follicle, as a result of which the follicle is unable to grow hair any longer. This is not a simple procedure, and needs to be performed by a licensed doctor or cosmetologist using highly sophisticated equipment. As is to be expected, such techniques are expensive, but in addition, they may not be suitable for all skin types and hair types. You need to first find a reliable and reputed doctor and go in for a consultation. Find out what treatment options are available for your hair type and skin type, how much they cost and what the possible side effects are. It would also be advisable to find out if there is any recovery period and how long it is, how long the treatment itself will take, and how effective it will be. Some permanent "hair removal" techniques, such as laser hair removal, are really only hair reduction techniques. Not all hair in the treated area may stop growing. Only after you are satisfied and certain should you go ahead with any such treatment.
If for any reason you decide not to go ahead with any permanent hair removal technique, you still have a better option than hair removal creams. Techniques such as hair removal creams and shaving are known as depilation - they only remove the portion of hair that is above the surface of the skin. The root of the hair and a small portion of the shaft remain in the follicle, under the surface of the skin, where they continue to grow. This is why hair will be visible within a day or two of shaving or using the hair removal cream. Moreover, the hair will grow in the form of a rough stubble, which can irritate the skin and also look unpleasant.
Instead of this, you can try waxing your underarms - this type of hair removal pulls out the entire hair, right from the root. A new hair will eventually grow from the same follicle, as the follicle itself has not been damaged, but this will take more time. The hair that grows back is also weaker, and over time the pain decreases considerably.
