Hair color removal by a hair care specialist

I had dyed hair black. Now I want to go lighter. The lighter shades only slightly change root color. I am considering a hair color remover. I have already dyed hair twice in less than two weeks.

You can indeed opt for a hair color remover. These are available in most stores; however, due to their chemical nature the procedure of removing hair color, it might be a bit tricky to perform on your own. It would be a good idea to go to a hair care specialist and get this done. Incidentally, the condition that you are facing is quite a common one, since it takes a real coloring expert to get the right combinations and color tones for the look that you require.

The basic mechanism at work when you use a hair color remover is bleaching. Chemically, bleaching is a process of a more reactive compound bonding with the hair color applied. This process is also accompanied by an oxidizing agent as well. But this is the also where it becomes tricky. There is nothing to distinguish the artificial color from the natural color of your hair. So you could end up with a bigger mess than one which you are in now. A lot also depends on the extent of the coloring that you have done. If the coloring was in streaks or layers, applying the remover on those parts would be adequate but if it was a complete change as you have done by dying your hair black this would be quite a problem. Ask your hair care specialist if there is a possibility of applying more color of the shade you are looking for instead of bleaching the hair out. Bleaching hair, incidentally, is a very damaging process for your hair and if your hair is not strong enough to take the stress of bleaching it could even become fragile and break off. You might want to consider a more expensive but safer option in letting your hair grow a bit and then coloring from the roots with the required shade you are looking for. This might work out better for your hair but is a long and tedious process which could take a few months before you are completely satisfied.

Either way, despite the power of a hair color remover, there is no quick fix that can be done here. You might take a few visits to your salon before you get the shade you are looking for. Dying hair for the right color is as difficult as trying to dye a white shirt with just the perfect shade of blue that you were looking for. So have some time on hand to accommodate for some corrective hair coloring sessions.
