The black dots that appear on the face or other parts of the body are also known as freckles and can be caused by a number of reasons. Primarily caused due to genetic factors, freckles can be broadly divided into two categories - lentigines which are small tan colored or black spots that do not fade and are caused due to genetic factors and ephelides, which are usually lighter in color, and fade in winter. They are caused due to a combination of genetic factors and exposure to the sun. Prolonged exposure to the sun can trigger the appearance of freckles in fair-skinned people. Sometimes hormonal imbalances can also be the underlying cause for these dark spots. It is important to correctly diagnose the reason for these dark spots before you start any treatment for it.
There are several simple home remedies that can help to fade these dark spots. One of the most efficient and popular remedies for removing dark spots is application of lemon juice on the affected patches of skin, using a cotton ball, which you can wash off with cold water after 15 to 20 minutes. The lemon juice bleaches the skin, gradually fading the dark spots as well. However, you must remember that lemon increases the skin's photosensitivity, so you should avoid stepping out in the sun immediately after this treatment and remember to use a good sunscreen lotion when you do step out. Honey is also beneficial for improving the skin tone and fading the dark spots. You can apply some pure honey on the face, washing it off with warm water after 20 minutes, or mix honey and lemon juice and apply this mixture on your face for better results. A good overnight home remedy for freckles is application of sour cream on the face. Let it stay for approximately half an hour and then gently wipe off the excess cream with a tissue. Pour a small quantity of moisturizer in your palm and gently massage it onto your skin so that the sour cream left on the face get absorbed by the skin. Allow this to stay overnight and wash your face with lukewarm water the next morning. Application of a mixture of sugar and lemon juice on the freckles is also beneficial for fading dark spots. This mixture gradually fades the dark spots and works best if left overnight. You can also massage your face gently using some yellow mustard oil, taking care to rub the affected areas with extra vigor. Allow this oil to soak into the skin overnight and wash it off the next morning with lukewarm water. In addition to these treatments, there are many fruit and vegetable face packs which are beneficial for improving the complexion and fading dark spots. Finally you should increase your consumption of Vitamins, especially Vitamins A, C and E which are beneficial for the skin.
