Remedies for oily hair
While the kind of hair you have is decided by genetic factors, exposure to extreme heat and humidity tends to make the hair oilier since these factors abet production of oil by the sebaceous glands. Increased levels of the male hormone Androgen, also found in women makes the sebaceous glands secrete more oil than usual. The best way to reduce the oiliness of hair is to shampoo regularly, especially if you live in a hot humid city with high levels of pollution. While shampooing your hair, massage your scalp vigorously to cleanse the scalp thoroughly, but never between shampoos since this will only increase secretion of oil. If you have very oily hair, you should leave the shampoo is the hair for a few minutes and also shampoo twice each time to wash out the excess oil properly. People with oily hair usually do not need conditioning, but if you do use one, opt for a conditioner that is oil-free and only apply it on the ends of your hair. Application of astringent to the scalp using cotton pads can help to reduce secretion of oil. You can also apply a mixture of witch hazel and mouthwash in the same manner before you shampoo. The witch hazel acts like astringent to reduce oil secretion and the antiseptic properties of the mouthwash keep your hair squeaky clean! Rinse your hair with a mixture of the juice of 2 lemons in 1 quart of water to cut the oiliness. You can also rinse your hair with a mixture of 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar in 1 pint of water, to cleanse the scalp and remove all soap residues. When you are drying your hair, use a blow-dryer and brush your hair in the opposite direction from the natural hair growth.
