Dandruff can be particularly painful and stubborn if it sets into your hair over a long period of time. You should be aware that it will not change if you do not make any changes to your general routines and methods of hair care. It is obvious that over a period of five years, you have not managed to get rid of your dandruff by following whatever methods you have been attempting. It is now time for a change. The first thing to note is that you must completely stop using anti dandruff shampoos if you are using any. These shampoos have the unique property of working on your hair only while they are in your hair. Once they are washed off, they will create an environment on your scalp which is more feasible to dandruff rather than the opposite. Instead, you are better off using a regular shampoo which is preferably herbal or organic in nature. Make it a point to scrub the juice of half a lime into your scalp very well and thoroughly half an hour before you shampoo. This is one of the most effective and useful remedies in getting rid of dandruff. You should make it a point to do this each time you wash your hair. Remember not to let the lime stay for longer as this may lead to gradual whitening of the hair.
You should also make sure that your hair and scalp remain clean all the time. If this requires that you wash your hair out everyday, please feel free to do it. It is a common belief that this will damage your hair. On the contrary, it will help to maintain a healthier scalp and strands and add to the life and strength of your hair. You can also make sure that your hair does not remain dry. Dryness of the hair and scalp is a common and prominent reason for dandruff development. And since you have what can easily be termed chronic dandruff, you should also avoid using hair oil. If you have to use hair oil, you should use it about an hour before your shampoo. To prevent dryness, you can use henna to deeply condition your hair about once a month. Make a paste with henna powder, fresh yogurt and water and apply this to your hair. Leave this in the hair for about 3 hours and then shampoo it off as usual.
