Removing hair permanently can only be done if it is regularly pulled out of the root, there are remedies like waxing that can do this. However, methods like electrolysis and laser treatments are much more effective because of the accuracy and depth of the skin they can reach. This means that home remedies like waxing take more sessions to become successful.

The structure of hair and the type of hair to be removed are the determining factors of whether a hair-waxing regime is successful or not. The methods of hair removal that are used today are shaving, chemical epilation (hair removal creams), laser hair removal, and waxing. Waxing and chemical epilation are not permanent solutions in the sense that the hair removed from a certain part disappears but that the growing back period is extended sometimes up to eight weeks from the date of epilating. Methods like lasers and intense pulsed light (IPL) method are more permanent and hair may never return to those parts of the skin. IPL is now more popular among the medical community over lasers. In the favor of waxing, over a period of time and waxing sessions, the hair that is being continuously pulled out, could possibly never come back again.

Waxing can be performed at home using an off the shelf wax just as it would be done in a salon. This is a very common method but some people tend to face skin irritations from the wax itself. To ensure that this is not a problem while waxing, sugaring is another technique. The governing principle of either technique is that a medium is required to solidify and grip the hair. Sugar, when mixed with orange juice and water and boiled to a point that it turns into thick syrup, is as good an adhesive as wax when applied to the skin after it cools, but this is also a challenge. It usually takes a bit of practice to master the art of making the right viscosity. Once the mixture is at the correct consistency, then it is applied to the skin and a porous, strong cloth is applied over it, the cloth can then be pulled and with it the offending hair - from the root. This is a simple and inexpensive method and also less irritating than other methods. While this is not a permanent solution, in the true sense of the term, it becomes more effective with repeated sessions.
