Ideally acne does not appear on the back, but there are rare instances which prove otherwise. The normal zones for acne to appear are the face but sometimes they do appear on the chest and the back as well. The treatment for acne in either case, irrespective of the location of the occurrence, is the same.

Acne occurs when the hormones secreted during puberty stimulate the sebaceous glands to produce sebum. Sebum is the oily substance secreted from the face and helps to protect and lubricate the skin naturally. The problem occurs when there is too much sebum being produced; this causes it to pool below the surface of the skin. If the pore is blocked at the same time, then a plug is formed in the pore and the bacteria that exist normally in the pores start to infect the area. The body responds to the infection by sending in white blood cells and inflaming the area. This brings out the characteristic pimple. The most effective treatments against pimple formation focus on keeping the skin and pores clean and allowing for the free flow of sebum out of the pores. The most effective treatment in this regard is salicylic acid, a plant based formulation.

Salicylic acid has the ability to break down skin proteins, especially of dead skin. This then makes it easy to scrub it off. In your case of pimples on the back, there is an added problem of the area being neglected from the proper cleaning that you give to your face. To eliminate this as a problem, have an additional bath everyday and focus a hot jet of water to your back for as long as you can stand the heat. The sudden heat treatment will open your pores and dislodge any plugs in them. After this, take a salicylic acid formulation and apply it over your back. Let it stay for a few minutes before washing it off. The last step is to use a scrubber and scrub your back clean. This should start showing results; though, an effect is that you would have a bit more oil from your skin on your back. This would require you to bathe more often but apart from that, there is no danger. Apply lotions with tea tree oil to your back and any other places that may have acne to kill off the bacteria there, as these would start an infection given a chance or a blocked pore, to be exact.
