One of the reasons that you are probably getting a rash is because you are not able to make correct contact between your head and the blade that you are using. This causes light injuries just as it sometimes appears on the face, when you use a blunt razor or if the angle of the cut is not correct. What is required is probably a different style of shaving and also some skin care afterwards.

Unlike the hair of the beard or the moustache, the hair on the head is a much finer hair. This would logically mean that shaving it would be easier; unfortunately, some times the shape of the head comes in the way of a good shave. Analyze the exact shape of your head and try to memorize the contours and dips. These are the two places where you can end up shaving incorrectly. Try to shave by starting at the top and coming down to the side instead of moving from the front to the back, which is probably more convenient and faster. Also, review which brand of shaving cream you are using. Ideally, you should try to use shaving foam that starts out as a gel and try to avoid readymade shaving foam. You can also try out an interesting method of shaving that is a bit radical but is theoretically perfect: Olive oil shaves. This might sound a bit far-fetched but the fact is that olive oil can actually perform the same function as any shaving cream or foam. The main target of most foams and creams is to soften up the hair so that it is easier to cut. Olive oil can do this task just as well as any shaving cream but you would have to apply it and leave it to soften the hair. This basically means waiting for an extra minute to massage the oil over your face. What is really crucial about this method is that should you accidentally nick your skin, the olive contains no allergens that irritate the skin and would immediately behave like a bandage on the area to avoid the rashes and bumps.

Apart from changing your shaving technique and the shaving medium, you should also take care of your skin after a shave as you would after shaving your facial hair. Aloe Vera based balms are great way to prevent rashes. This is because Aloe Vera, when applied topically, dries up and forms a protective layer over your skin.
