Excessive facial hair in women is not really an uncommon condition. It is usually a result of hormonal imbalances, which in turn can be caused by several reasons like heredity, puberty, irregular periods, pregnancy, menopause, certain medications, and also stress. The facial hair itself is of course not a serious problem, but it's always good to have it checked with a gynecologist, as some of the underlying causes could require prompt attention. One medical reason for overgrowth of facial hair is Polycystic Ovarian Disease (PCOD), also known as Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. In this condition, there is a sudden increase in the production of androgen, while the estrogen levels decrease. The overproduction of androgen gets manifested in the form of facial hair. A specialist can successfully treat PCOD with suitable medication, which will usually also get rid of the excess facial hair. You should strictly avoid random medication taken simply for the facial hair growth problem.
If you have identified and are treating your underlying problem, there are many ways to make your facial hair look less pronounced. Some women prefer waxing or threading it, which is not always convenient. However, no matter what, do not shave the hair. If you shave it, your hair will not grow thicker as you may have heard, but it will grow back in the form of an unsightly stubble.
Sugar is one of the oldest and most effective ingredients used in treating facial hair. Make a mask by mixing two teaspoons of sugar, one teaspoon of lemon juice and half a teaspoon of water. Dissolve the sugar by mixing the combination very well. Then, moving your fingertips in the direction of hair growth, apply the thick mixture on your face. Let the mask stay for approximately twenty minutes, and rinse it with cold water. The application of this face mask at least three times a week will remarkably reduce the growth of facial hair. Another effective treatment to get rid of facial hair is 1 teaspoon of milk or milk cream mixed with a pinch of turmeric powder. Blend it well and scrub it on your face with a circular motion. Let it stay on for at least half an hour, and then rinse it with cold water. Repeat this treatment at least two or three times a week, continuing it for several weeks. Other than these scrubs and facial masks, you can also make a peel at home. For that, make a thick paste of one egg white, 1 tablespoon of sugar, and 1/2 tablespoon of corn flour. Apply this paste to your face, leave it to dry, and then peel it off gently. Repeat this about four times a week.
