To properly style your hair, you will first need to address the frizziness. Curly hair usually gets frizzy because it is severely dry. In some cases, this may be due to a problem with sebum production, but in a majority of cases, the problem is much simpler. Sebum, the oily substance produced by sebaceous glands in our skin, is what keeps our skin and hair moist and lubricated. For sebum to perform this function for your hair, it needs to spread from your scalp down the hair shafts, right to the tip of each hair. With straight hair, this usually happens quite easily, but with wavy and curly hair, it is a little more difficult. The very structure of curly hair makes it difficult for sebum from the scalp to coat the entire hair, and as a result hair becomes dry, gets damaged, and looks frizzy. To solve this problem, all that is needed in most cases is frequent combing. The comb spreads the sebum from the scalp over the hair, and in addition, it is thought to stimulate the scalp into producing more sebum. Therefore, even if the problem is inadequate production of sebum, regular combing might help. Only remember that you should never comb your hair when it is wet, and never use the comb to detangle your hair. Wet hair is weak and easily breakable; allow your hair to dry, and only then comb it. Knots and tangles should be gently opened with your fingers, after which you can continue combing your hair.

It might take a week or more for this to show any results, so you will need to be patient. However, if your hair remains dry and frizzy, you will need to supplement the natural oil with something like coconut oil or olive oil. This should be applied at night, and washed off in the morning; regular use will keep your hair moisturized, soft, and glossy.

If dryness is not a major problem, then perhaps your hair just naturally has tight, frizzy curls. Some people also have completely normal hair till the weather conditions get humid, when their hair suddenly becomes frizzy. In such cases too, regular oiling should help, but in addition, you will probably need to use a suitable conditioner. Commercial conditioners are available for frizzy hair, but you can also try a simple home made conditioner such as honey or egg. Finally, ask your hairdresser to suggest a cut that will give your hair less frizz and volume, while going with your facial structure.
