Bad hair days can be a person's worst nightmare given the timing at which they choose to strike. If you have frizzy hair, it can really torment you because apart from seeming dull and lifeless, it also tends to behave quite disobedient and trying to get your hair looking the way you desire can be the hardest part of your day. Quite often though, what leads you hair to becoming frizzy could be something not in your hands. For example, weather conditions, especially excess humidity in the air, can be a leading reason as to why your hair might be frizzy. Other causes could be a lack of moisture and protein in the hair as well as the application of styling products in excess quantities.

Hair damage caused by coloring, bleaching and perming can also very often lead to frizzy hair. Using heat emitting appliances on your hair like a blow dryer and curling irons can also have more disadvantages than advantages in the long run. Chemical reactions of your hair as well as hot oil treatments and oil based conditioners can all have a role to play in frizzy hair.

As with most hair problems, there are a number of steps you can take to make the hair healthier and in the process, less frizzy. Try a few of these for good results:

  • Avoid using a blow dryer, but if required under urgent circumstances, use it on your hair only after making sure that the hair is completely dry. Use a warm or cool setting on the dryer and keep moving it around the head to avoid missing certain sections. Also remember to be very gentle with the hair.
  • Make sure you condition your hair once a week to increase the moisture levels in it. After application of the conditioner, leave it in your hair for about 10 to 15 minutes and preferably wrapped in a hot towel as this will help activate the ingredients of the conditioner. Once the conditioner is washed off, let the hair air dry itself.
  • Trimming your hair regularly will also help control the frizz in your hair. Try trimming at a frequency of about every 6 to 8 weeks.
  • Make sure that you do not sleep on your hair when it is wet and avoid any contact with your hair while it is drying.
  • Apply some moisture block to your hair as this will help lock the moisture into the hair throughout the day.
