In today's world, almost everybody wishes to reduce the darkness of their pigmentation. So, it is perfectly understandable to see someone fretting tirelessly over a dark patch located anywhere on their face. A spot like that has the tendency to substantially alter the appearance of an individual. There are a wide range of commercially available skin care products in today's consumer market that will almost guarantee that the spot will disappear. However, most have not seen significant success because they have been only temporary measures in the quest for perfect skin. More often than not, the key in treating this kind of problem lies in understanding what created it in the first place. This will help you figure out what changes need to be made to your lifestyle to make sure that this does not happen again. While it is likely that a drastic change in pigmentation could be a symptom for a number of more serious and severe underlying medical conditions, chances are that the dark spot is merely caused due to an excessive amount of exposure of the skin to sunlight. The sun emits harmful ultra violet rays that can damage the skin to the extent of causing cell augmentation as well as skin cancer. The skin, as part of is defense mechanism, creates a darker skin pigmentation using cells called melanocytes which produce the skin coloring agent - called melanin. This melanin will become darker in proportion with the amount of ultra violet rays that it needs to shield the skin from.

Hence, staying away from the sun as much as possible will help tremendously in preventing the skin from becoming any darker and will also help speed up any of the treatments you use to help lighten the color of the skin. Some home remedies that you could use in the lightening of the skin include; rubbing some lime juice over the affected portion of the skin on a daily basis, about an hour before your bath. Mixing some oatmeal along with some tomato juice and curd to make a paste and applying it over the infected area for about 20 minutes before washing it off with cold water, should help in reducing the dark pigmentation considerably. Another extremely effective option is to massage the affected area of the skin with some cocoa butter two times a day for a period of about three weeks. The cocoa butter has an added advantage of also being a very effective skin moisturizer.
