Brown patches on the legs, that resemble bruises, can point to a number of possibilities and, unfortunately, does not shed enough light on the condition to accurately identify the problem. As a result, I would strongly suggest that you approach a medical physician in your locality to take a closer examination to help with its treatment. The bruises could possibly be caused by an allergic reaction to some kind of detergent or soap, in which case it is important to identify the irritant and stop using it. However, it could also be a symptom for a more severe underlying condition. There is also a possibility that the condition you currently have is one called lichen planus. While the exact causes of the condition is still largely unknown, it can affect the skin on any part of the body and can sometimes even affect the mouth. Lichen planus can, as most other conditions, be passed down simply by the laws of genetics, while it can also be aggravated by the consumption of certain kinds of food. Fish is known to aggravate the condition considerably. Lichen planus is seen to affect women almost twice as much as it does men and occurs most frequently amongst the middle aged. If affected by the condition, the skin will turn either reddish purple or brown and may also have flat topped "bumps" on the skin. However, it is important to remember that lichen planus reacts very differently from person to person and the symptoms are rather inconsistent and while the rash can spread as fast as a couple of hours on one person's skin, it could take up to a few weeks to spread over another's.

There are a few home remedies that might prove useful in dealing with this condition; however, it is still highly recommended that you pay a visit to your local doctor to make sure that you are treating the right condition. You could try soaking your bath tub with some kind of colloidal oatmeal and bathe in the water as this is known to significantly reduce the destabilizing effect that the condition can have on a persons daily routine. Applying some kind of cool compress over the patch of irritated skin will also help soothe the skin cells. Aloe vera is also very well known for its healing powers when dealing with skin conditions. Applying some of the gel according to the manufacturer's instructions might show impressive results.
