Dandruff is a condition in which dead skin cells are shed heavily from the scalp. Dandruff - medically know as seborrhoeic dermatitis, also troubles the face, ear and groin and other body parts. It makes the skin flaky and crusty, causes itching and irritation of the skin, and the person affected by dandruff often feels socially uneasy.
There are various causes of dandruff, such as stress, lack of proper hair care, excessive presence of malassezia furfur (a harmful fungus) on the scalp, certain hormonal changes, indigestion, some hair products containing chemicals, adverse environmental conditions, and poor diet as well. To solve this problem, you should first try to change your diet and follow proper hair care tips. Cleanse your system by drinking at least two liters of water daily, and increase your intake of fibrous foods, leafy vegetables and fruits. Cut down on fried food, sugar, and caffeine, and avoid alcohol and tobacco.
For dandruff that primarily affects your scalp, a time-tested remedy is massaging warm coconut oil on the scalp in the night. The next morning, mix lemon juice and apple cider vinegar and apply it to your hair. Make sure that you also massage this mixture into your scalp as it will help to get rid of the excess oil and also prevent dandruff. Rinse it off with a mixture of warm water and lemon juice and then wash your hair as usual. You can also apply a mix of ginger juice and beetroot juice on the scalp and then wash your hair.
To get rid of dandruff on other parts of your body, mix one raw egg, one avocado, and a teaspoon of coconut oil in a bowl till they form a creamy paste. Smoothen the paste on the affected areas and leave it for about 30 minutes. Wash it off thoroughly with warm water. Raw eggs and avocados hold natural moisturizing proteins, and coconut oil adds antioxidants to the mix. For another remedy, take one cup uncooked oatmeal and mix it with a few spoonfuls of plain yogurt. Use this mixture as a gentle body scrub to remove dry skin and dead skin cells. You can also apply honey on your face, leave it on for about 15 minutes, and wash it off with water. In addition, use a mild moisturizer daily, and keep your skin regularly moisturized especially in the night. Applying olive oil on face and body is also a great way to moisturize your skin and protect yourself against dandruff.
