You are experiencing age spots or liver spots, as they are sometimes called. These occur as a process of skin aging and can occur on any part of the body. This condition is actually not restricted to chronological age, but rather the age of the skin, which can be measured in exposures to the sun. The reason why an age spot occurs is, due to the damage done to the skin by the harmful rays of the sun. When skin is damaged by exposure to the sun, due to ultraviolet radiation, the skin has to repair the damage. Over the course of time, the skin loses its ability to repair this damage and results in blemishes that contains a high concentration of melanin.

Melanin is a naturally occurring skin pigment in nature and is even created in plants. In humans, melanin is created by the melanocyte cells in the skin. These are basically a form of stem cells and are continuously dividing. The substance melanin is a natural protection for our skin from the effects of ultraviolet radiation. When ultraviolet radiation hits the skin, it is converted into harmless heat by the melanin. In the process the melanin also gets oxidizes and this makes it a shade darker. Therefore, the color of the skin changes with a suntan, but we end up a lot safer from the harmful ultraviolet radiation. However, this is not a perfect process and some of the UV radiation does get through. When this does happen, then there occurs cellular damage and cell death. When the skin cannot repair the continuous damage anymore it creates a blemish that is filled with melanin and with more exposure to the sun, the melanin turns darker to the point of turning black. The dryness is probably a result of very low quantities of the natural skin oil called sebum being secreted by the sebaceous glands of the skin. Again, this is a consequence of skin aging.

The way to rectify and repair this damage is to bleach the area of the age spot by a combination of lemon juice and onion juice. Finely dice an onion and then squeeze the juice out of the pieces. Once you have done this, squeeze a lemon into the liquid and stir. Then, all you have to do is to apply this mixture onto the skin like layers of paint, waiting for the previous layer to dry before applying a new coat. Make sure you wash this application off thoroughly after 10 minutes of application.
