There are several methods of hair removal. Waxing is the easiest and most convenient way of hair removal. It can be done at home as well, using a sugaring solution by taking ¼ cup of water, 2 cups of sugar and ¼ cup of lemon juice. Heat the mixture in a pan on medium heat until it bubbles into a smooth consistency. Once it cools down to a warm condition you may apply it on the skin, and using pieces of cotton cloth or disposable strips, pull in the direction opposite to that of hair growth. Tweezing and threading are also safe methods of hair removal, but they can be time consuming. Bleaching is also a good option if the hair is dark and not so dense. Shaving can also be done, but the hair grows back faster and the skin may also become red after shaving. For the redness you can apply a solution of 1-2 aspirins and ¼ cup of water. A point to be noted is that shaving does not change the color, texture, rate of hair growth and hair density as this depends on hormones. Depilatories act by breaking down the hair structure and dissolving the hair. Irritation may occur for some people, and so it is advisable to do a patch test first. Electrolysis is considered to be a permanent hair removal method. But this technique is expensive and needs repeated treatments. Laser hair removal is also superior to other forms of hair removal, but it is not permanent and can cause skin discoloration, inflammation and infected hair follicles.

There are certain home remedies for hair removal too. You may apply a paste of sugar, lemon and water in the direction of the hair growth and rinse after 10-15 minutes. A mask can also be made of a mixture of 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice and 4 tsps of honey and applied in the direction of the hair growth. To bleach and lighten the hair, you can also apply a paste of 2 tsp of fresh lime juice and ½ tsp of sugar, 3-4 times a week for about two months. Another remedy can also be made by mixing turmeric powder with milk. Apply this to your face and scrub it off slowly using circular motions. For hair on the legs, you can apply a mixture of fresh ground white pepper with camphor and a few drops of kerosene and leave for 10-15 minutes. This will cause the hair to fall off.
