Pimples or zits are a common problem and mainly occur on the face, neck and back. Knowing how pimples are caused will help you find the right cure and treatment for it. Between the areas of the nose and cheek, there are as many as two thousand oil glands per square inch. These oil glands produce sebum or oil, which is essential for lubricating the skin. The oil is secreted through small follicles or ducts in the skin called pores. The skin renews itself by shedding off the old skin cells. When these dead skin cells become sticky and clog together, they trap oil and bacteria inside the pores and form a lump or plug. The plug begins to grow as more skin cells and oil start accumulating. The bacteria trigger additional inflammation and infection resulting in pimples.

It is important that you don't pinch or pick at a pimple, as this will cause it to become more inflamed and the bacteria and oil can spread to other parts of the skin. Squeezing the pimple will also leave scars on the skin. For the swelling and redness, you can apply an ice pack every 30 minutes and hold it to the pimple for about two minutes. It is important to cleanse your skin with a mild soap that has no harsh chemicals. Be sure not to rub your face too hard as this will strip the skin of its essential oil, leading to an over production of oil to compensate for the dryness. Oil free make up is also beneficial for the skin as it has a reduced tendency of causing pore build-up that leads to blemishes. Make-up should also be removed as soon as you get home. A quick fix for a pimple is to hold a wet tea bag or a cotton ball dipped in lemon juice against it. This will bring down the redness and swelling. Applying fresh mint juice on the face is helpful in treating pimples and other skin infections. Smearing a combination of cinnamon powder and honey on the affected skin is also efficient in eliminating pimples. This is best if done at night and washed off the next morning.

A good remedy for a glowing skin is to boil ground nutmeg in milk, apply to the skin and leave it on overnight. Instead of using commercial moisturizers, you could try using grape seed or almond oil. Avocado oil also works well in ensuring the health and vitality of the skin.
