Almond oil for dandruff control

I have combination hair and skin. The scalp is oily and dandruff sticks to it and the ends are very dry. I have curly hair and it has not grown past a certain length. I apply homemade hair packs also.

The fundamental problem that you are facing here is dandruff. This may imply that you are not oiling your hair with the correct hair oil to reduce excessive oil secretions. There is also a possibility that you need to examine the environment that you are in to avoid being in contact with skin irritants like temperature and perhaps even the hair pack that you are using.

Dandruff is a problem that is caused by flaking skin. These are basically collections of dead skin cells that accumulate in huge amounts and fall of the scalp very visibly. Usually, this problem is visible due to a lack of sebum binding the dead skin cells of the scalp together. In your case, it looks like the sebum production is adequate enough to mask the massive cell death of the scalp skin cells. The massive cell death itself can be attributed to a skin allergy, a change of environment to one that is very hot and dry, and most probably a type of fungus that resides in your scalp. This fungus is the main reason why anti-dandruff shampoos are as effective in dealing with the problem as they are. Fungal infections can easily be removed by anti-dandruff formulations thereby, completely solving the problem. However, if the dandruff is a problem that is caused by an allergic reaction or as a response to the environmental triggers as described before, then the only remedy is to wash your hair more often.

To start dealing with this problem, invest in an anti-dandruff shampoo that contains either zinc pyrithione or selenium sulfide. Both of these are quite effective at killing off any skin fungus. The frequency of your shampooing sessions should increase quite dramatically to about once in two days. You might also want to contemplate getting a haircut to keep your scalp cool and also reduce the compressive effect of the curly hair. You should also contemplate using a hair oil and stop using your hair pack. The most effective oil in this regard is almond oil, which contains essential fatty acids. When the skin is already saturated with oil that serves the same purpose as that of natural skin oil, the production of natural skin oil will reduce and your problem of an oily scalp will also be completely taken care of. Considering that your hair is curly, a lot has to be said about heat being trapped in your scalp. Therefore, it makes sense to be in an environment that is cool to avoid sweating and excessive oil secretions from your skin.
