Falling hair is quite common and natural for everyone. Hair tends to fall after growing to its full length, allowing new hair to grow. Hair fall of upto100 hair a day is considered normal as the head grows the hair back again. But excessive hair fall is a real problem though and needs to be addressed. Inadequate nutrition is the most important cause of hair fall. Partial lack of any nutrient may cause loss of hair. Another cause of hair fall is stress, which leads to severe tension of the skin on the scalp. This affects the supply of nutrition that is essential for the healthy growth of hair. Severe or long standing illnesses such as typhoid, syphilis, chronic cold and anemia can also lead to weak hair roots which causes hair fall. An unclean scalp can also cause the hair to fall as it weakens the hair roots by clogging the pores with accumulated dirt.

Applying oil is very essential for healthy hair. Massaging the scalp gently with coconut or almond oil is very beneficial in preventing hair fall. Using steam to prevent hair loss is an excellent remedy. You can do this by taking some hot water in a pan. Dip a towel in it, squeeze it lightly and wrap it around your head. When it cools, repeat the procedure and continue for about ten minutes. This helps in keeping the hair healthy. Another remedy that facilitates hair growth and prevents hair fall is to grind beet root leaves into a paste and apply it on the hair. To treat hair fall, you could also apply dry Indian gooseberry soaked in water overnight. Apply this before going to bed and wash off the next morning. Juice of long cucumber also facilitates healthy hair growth as it contains silicon and sulfur which is good for the hair. Drinking a mixed juice of cucumber, spinach and carrot also helps to reduce hair fall. Nettle and nettle extract is also very good for the hair as it contains vitamins A and C which are considered important for hair growth and making the hair stronger.

Protein is a very essential nutrient in combating hair fall. Hair is composed of a form of protein and hence consuming foods that are protein-rich such as chicken, eggs, fish, grains, soy and nuts, is very beneficial in stopping hair fall. It is also recommended that you include iron, vitamin B12 and lysine in your diet.
