Our hair contains a certain amount of moisture which preserves the hair and keeps it from drying and becoming rough. The moisture level can go down because of various reasons, due to this most of us experience dry hair at some point or the other. Rough hair can result due to excessive washing of hair and improper hair care. Washing the hair with a harsh shampoo strips away the moisture and also washes out the nutrients from the hair, leaving it dry and rough. Using hot dryers, curlers and straighteners for styling the hair can also lead to drying. Swimming without a head cap in chlorinated water also makes the hair parched and dry. Use of excessive chemicals on the hair can also harm the hair and make it rough. Climatic conditions can also dry out your hair making it rough and unmanageable. Anorexia is a condition wherein individuals engage in self-starving, in order to stay thin. As such their bodies are denied of nutrients which are also necessary to maintain shine and softness in the hair. Similarly, malnutrition can also make your hair brittle and rough. Rough and dry hair can also be a symptom of thyroid problems.

One of the initial hair tips to be taken when treating rough hair is to use a mild shampoo. Look for shampoo that is especially for dry and rough hair. It is preferable to use natural shampoos instead of chemical ones. Using a conditioner after shampooing also helps to preserve the lost nutrients and oil in the hair. It is also a good idea to have your hair deep-conditioned once in a while. It will also give your hair shine and bounce. Avoid over-exposure of your hair to the sun by covering your hair with a scarf or a hat when going out. Beer has been known to be effective in making the hair smooth and soft. Mayonnaise also helps to bring the life back to your hair. You may also apply a mixture of henna and yogurt to your hair once a week. A coconut oil massage twice a week is also a good option for rough hair. You may also use warm olive or almond oil to massage your scalp. Leaving this overnight will help to strengthen your hair and make it smooth and manageable.

These hair care tips and methods must be practiced on a regular basis for effective results. In order to improve the texture of your hair, you must first work on restoring its health. Try not to tie your hair all the time, as this causes breakage. Leaving the hair loose will prevent the hair from getting pulled and broken. Sufficient sleep and exercise are also important for ensuring that your hair remains healthy.
