Pores are a natural feature on your skin. Skin pores perform some important functions like releasing sweat from the sweat glands under the skin, thus helping to regulate body temperature, and releasing sebum from the sebaceous glands under the skin, thus keeping the skin moisturized and lubricated. Unfortunately, as we grow older, pores tend to develop a stretched, widened appearance. This happens more often with oily skin, and seems to be at least partly related to the activity of the sebaceous glands. Sometimes unknown factors may cause the sebaceous glands to be overactive, but at other times, it is the excessive use of soap and other products that is responsible. Soap dries out the skin and strips away sebum, and as a result, the sebaceous glands sometimes increase their production of sebum, resulting in excessively oily skin. This is therefore something that you need to address first - try switching to a mild soap, or preferably glycerin soap. Moisturizing soaps are also available, and you could even try these. Initially, this might leave your skin a little oilier than before, but gradually your skin will get accustomed to the new soap as the sebaceous glands normalize production of sebum.

In some cases, mild or moisturizing soaps may not be enough, and you may need to use a cleanser instead. Here too, there is a chance that you may remove too much sebum and thus indirectly increase production of sebum. You should therefore ensure that the cleanser you use also moisturizes your skin, so that it is not left completely dry after every wash.

Solving the problem of oily skin goes a long way towards getting rid of large, stretched pores, but it may not be enough. Some simple measures may provide additional help here. Regular exfoliation with a simple mixture of honey, lemon juice, and rice flour is one simple and effective way of achieving this. Lemon juice is a natural cleanser, while the honey is a natural antibacterial agent that also moisturizes the skin. The rice flour provides gentle exfoliation, thus getting rid of dead skin cells that can block pores and stretch them. Exposure to sunlight seems to be another factor that damages skin and causes pores to stretch. You should therefore try to keep your skin covered when you are outdoors during the day, and in addition ensure that you always wear sunscreen. However, remember that to some extent this problem is influenced by age and genetics, so you may not be able to get completely rid of it.
