Moles are usually dark blemishes on the skin which may be slightly raised in comparison to the surrounding area. They are caused due to an abnormal concentration of the pigment cells under the skin. Some people are born with moles and some appear and disappear on their own spontaneously and are aggravated by prolonged exposure to sunlight. Moles may be the same color of the skin or red, brown or black. Most moles are painless and absolutely harmless, but in rare cases, the mole may become cancerous. If the mole is itchy or painful and appears to be increasing in size or darkening, consulting a dermatologist is advised before trying a home remedy.
There are number of natural skin care remedies for treating moles. Milkweed herb is known for its ability to get rid of moles. Smear the mole with milkweed sap, leave it on overnight and wash it off with warm water in the morning. This effectively reduces the mole if used daily. The purest form of honey, when applied to the mole, is known to fade away the spots. A paste of ground flaxseed and honey, when applied to the mole daily, causes the mole to gradually disappear. Applying castor oil to the mole and keeping it covered for 2 days with a band aid is believed to make the mole fall off almost immediately. Dandelion extract and cauliflower juice are helpful in getting rid of warty moles. Cover the mole with Dandelion extract or cauliflower juice and wash it off gently after 15-20 minutes. Regular use will result in the mole falling off in a few days. Covering the mole with pineapple, fig or sour apple juice is also known to reduce moles. Garlic cloves, crushed and applied to the mole, assist the disappearance of the mole. Rubbing the mole with tincture of iodine before going to bed for 4-5 nights is a quick way of diminishing moles.
Constant exposure to the harmful rays of the sun increases the formation of moles. Hence, it is advisable to stay away from direct sunlight and the use of a high SPF factor sunscreen is recommended. Potassium is effective in reducing the occurrence of moles. Grapefruit, bananas, apples, avocados, potatoes, tomatoes, spinach, lima beans and kidney beans are rich sources of potassium which help prevent the occurrence of moles. Coating the moles with a rich source of potassium like apple cider vinegar and washing it off after half an hour is another effective remedy for curing moles.
