Spots on the skin are a common cause for worry for many people. Looking after your skin is important, as everyone would like to have soft, glowing and smooth skin. Remember that taking care of your skin has a lot to do with the food you eat and your exposure to various agents such as sunlight and other cosmetic products. One should first ensure that the skin is kept clean at all times. A large number of products that claim to have skin cleansing properties actually remove the essential oils from the skin, leaving it looking dull and lifeless. It is therefore necessary to be extremely careful while choosing the products that you are going to use on your skin. There are many reasons for the development of spots on the skin. Some of these are - varying pigmentation levels, acne scars, and the basic structure and composition of the skin type. Hormonal imbalances and stress also play their part in blemished skin.
One of the most important factors that cause spots on the skin is exposure to the ultra violet rays of the sun. The melanin present in the skin absorbs these rays to protect the body and in doing so, the skin becomes a darker color. Exposure to sunlight also prompts the skin to produce more melanin, and this causes further darkening. This sometimes gives an even tan, but at other times, it gives the body an effect of discoloration in small patches. It is therefore always advisable to wear suitable clothing and use a sun screen lotion when going out into the sun so that the skin is protected from damage caused by the sun.
A variety of home remedies, showing quick results, have been recommended to improve the overall color of the skin. A mixture of milk and the juice of a cucumber is a great face cleanser. The skin can be made to glow with the use of red sandalwood paste. Carrot juice is also recommended for its ability to fade blemishes. Almond oil nourishes the skin and should be used after bathing. Skin tones can sometimes also be lightened by the use of papaya pulp. Raw potato is also very helpful in treating dark spots on the skin. For those people with oily skin, a mixture of egg white, lemon juice and grapes should be applied to the skin. The mixture will help in cleaning and softening the skin. Leave it on for approximately fifteen minutes before washing it off with warm water. The skin can be kept supple and fresh by drinking enough water during the day and getting enough rest.
